The Workshop this year is dedicated to the memory of Les Akers.  He was a dear friend and recently passed away from cancer. He was a tremendous dancer and will be missed by scores of people.  His big dream was to go to the jg Marathon and meet Scott Blevins.  He was able to do that last spring 2011 and here’s what Scott had to say about him:

Hello Nikki,

Jean forwarded the email about Les to me.  I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.  I remember him being in every class I had and dancing beside him in the evening dance.  It was a special weekend for me because of Les.  I don't see myself the way Les talked about me but I feel honored that anybody would see me the way he did.  He said such nice things about me and my choreography and all I could think was, I'm nothing compared to this man.  He was very ill but he was living life to the fullest.  We can all learn a lot from him.  I wish I could have known him better but what I do know is the world will be a little less special with out him in it.  I hope you all are coming again this year so we can dance one together for Les.  Give my love and kindest thoughts to his family.

Take care,

Scott Blevins
